Why do you need a video production contract?

Most disputes in production work come not from price but from scope. "How many revisions do I get?", "Do I keep the raw footage?", "When is delivery?", "What happens if the shoot is cancelled?" — when these are not written down at the start, they become the things that sour the end of the project for both sides.

The tool above asks for your project details step by step and produces a ready-to-sign video production service contract, delivered to your inbox as a PDF. Free, no sign-up.

It works for production companies and for brands buying the service. If you are a freelance director or videographer, you can generate a draft here and edit it instead of writing a contract from scratch for every job.

How it works

  1. Enter the parties

Name and address of the service provider and the client.

  2. Define the scope

Project type, shooting date and number of days, revision rounds, whether raw footage is delivered, payment structure, total fee and delivery time.

  3. Generate the contract

A structured contract is assembled from the information you provided.

  4. Receive it as a PDF

The contract is emailed to you as a PDF. Download it, edit it, show it to your lawyer and put it up for signature.

Clauses a production contract must contain

Scope of work

How many videos, what length, delivered in which formats. When scope stays vague, "let's just add this one thing" requests never end.

Shooting dates and days

How many days of filming and how dates may be changed. Who bears the cost of a postponement belongs here too.

Revision rounds

How many rounds are included and how further ones are charged. This is the most frequently omitted clause and the one that causes the most trouble.

Raw footage

Whether the raw material is handed to the client, and if so in what format and when. Delivery of raw footage usually carries an additional fee.

Payment structure

Deposit percentage, interim payments and when the final payment falls due. Common practice is a deposit up front and the balance on delivery.

Delivery time and usage rights

When the video is delivered and where it may be used. Whether usage is perpetual or limited to digital channels has to be explicit.

Does the generated contract replace legal advice?

No. The tool produces a draft based on clauses commonly used in the industry. It sets up the framework a standard production job needs, but it does not know your specific situation.

For high-budget projects, international usage rights, talent and music licensing or unusual payment structures, show the draft to a lawyer. The tool removes the work of writing from scratch and the risk of forgetting a clause; it does not replace legal counsel.

If you are still at the budgeting stage, you may want the budget calculator first. To see how we work, visit video production.

Frequently asked questions

Is generating a contract free?

Yes, completely free. No membership or payment required.

How do I receive the contract?

When you complete the form the contract is emailed to the address you entered, as a PDF.

Can I edit the generated text?

Yes. The PDF is a draft; you can add, remove or reword clauses to fit your own terms.

Is this contract legally valid?

A document signed by both parties that clearly defines mutual obligations is binding. That said, the tool produces a general draft — consult a lawyer for special circumstances.

I am not working with Vusto — can I still use it?

Yes. The tool is open to everyone and does not require working with us. Use it for a contract with your own client.

Can I use it as a freelance videographer?

Yes, and you are among those who benefit most. Start from a standard draft instead of writing a new contract for every job.

How are usage rights handled?

The draft includes a framework for how the video may be used after delivery. For international broadcast, television use or perpetual licences you should adapt that clause yourself.

Is the information I enter stored?

The details needed to generate and send the contract are processed. Contract content is not shared for commercial purposes.
